Aloha!

It's time for the Savant/Aignos Realtime Text Chat for July. Remember the basic rules:

1. This chat is open to Savant/Aignos authors, poets, musicians, video producers and staff as well as their guests and the interested public;

2. Everyone can "lurk" (follow the chat) but to post you must "register" with the host AND confirm your email address by checking your email account and responding to the host's email;

3. Refresh your browser after every post and every two or three minutes to "update" chat posts;

4. All post must be in English;

5. Always exercise courtesy and politeness (impoliteness will get you banned);

And with that, it's time to begin!

I see you have a new Hawaiian island thanks to the volcano. I think we should name it Savantland and plant our flag
on it and declare it a nuclear and social media free zone.

It's my privilege as publisher and moderator to give a quick update on things Savant and Aignos, so here goes:

First, we're finally back in our offices after close to six months of being temporarily housed in the famous Ilikai Hotel in Waikiki while water damage caused asbestos remediation and reconstruction took place. The "vacation" was fun for a month, but there's nothing like being "in the office" with the vast array of resources once again at our fingertips.

I've gotten several emails and calls about the volcano on Big Island. Being more than 50 miles away from it and on the other side of the ocean from the eruption site, we're quite safe on Oahu and can't see the vapor cloud or night glow from the eruptions. It makes for a lot of local news, however, and has caused major anguish for many Big Islanders.

On the Savant side, we have two works in final production. The first is Elizabeth McKague's NAVEL OF THE SEA, a collection of love stories that take place in different countries during select time periods of history, spanning the golden age of ancient Greece to our modern era. The stories are connected by an ongoing narrative about the two writers of the stories, a husband and wife, Claude and Marianne, who live on the Maltese island of Gozo in Italy where they receive postcards from the past that dictate the century and setting for each story. The word ends with a story about how the authors first met and fell in love.  The second is Jamie Dela Cruz' TALKING STORY: STORYTELLING MEETS PHENOMENOLOGY, a many-faceted word that you might decide that this may be a book to read as you are going through your dissertation to make sure everything is in check.  You may also decide to use this book to raise your own performance level and take your existing work or project to the next level.   Alternatively, this may simply be a book that you may need as a source of inspiration to keep your drive for continued research going.  However you choose to use this book, it is important that you put these lessons into your daily practice to improve your research.  It will come down to ensure that you are committed and consistent of making sure that you are your very best each day.

On the Aignos side (Aignos is an imprint of Savant Books and Publications for avant guard works), we have, first, J. G. Matheny's THE PRINCESS IN MY HEAD, a three-part work (novel; screenplay; musical libretto), in which medieval Princess Aqualine the Wise and modern-day Princess Allison the Benevolent defy logic but not magic to communicate through their dreams. Aqualine inks proclamations and Allison holds webcasts, inspiring their loyal subjects and solving problems through ideas and influence gained from each other’s world.  Together they will face their problems, and find a solution over time and space, with several additional works moving soon from editing into polishing.

Aloha Mike,

What an excellent idea, if for the publicity at least!  If anyone on the chat is living on Big Island, please let us know what's happening with the literary community there!

Fun marketing facts to share: About 70 % of book sales go through Amazon and or Kindle, about 10 % go to libraries and schools. Also, the founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, is now reported to be the richest person in the world. I hope someone writes up the tale of Amazon. It could be called "Attack of the Drones".

In my editorial role, I'm quite busy, working with

Helen R. Davis on her second book in the Cleopatra Series, this book entitled CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS. The alternative history sequel to Helen R. Davis' award-winning novel, CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED (Savant 2015), Cleopatra VII, queen of Egypt, has triumphed at the Battle of Actium, which in the annals of history cost her and her lover, Mark Antony, their lives. She has won the battle, but will she be able to win the war and create a new place for her, her dynasty and Egypt in the annals of history?

Also, Helen R. Davis' new children's book TRUTH AND TELL TRAVEL THE SOLAR SYSTEM, in which two brave characters, the caterpillars Truth and Tell, upon arriving in our solar system by accident, decide to travel through and learn about it.

Finally, A. G. Hayes upcoming serialized novel, 68 VIA CONDOTTI, the first installment being ETERNITY LTD. From a little known address within the Vatican, operation "Eternity" is launched, ultimately redefining the world's intelligence services and their strategic plan for global cooperation. It all begins with a humble Pope with a different plan for this and the next world. "68 VIA CONDOTTI: Eternity Ltd." is the first Kate Keenan Special Agent novella (chapter) in a serialized read not unlike watching a 1940-50s movie serial.

Busy, busy, busy to bring the works of two great Savant authors to avid readers throughout the world.

I am looking forward to the release of The Princess in My Head as it can be experienced as novel, a screenplay, and/or a musical. It is one of Aignos' biggest experiments to date and quite an engaging storyline to boot.

Also, I know that for the fall we have exciting books coming out in the categories of alternative history, children's science, and fantasy.

Speaking of earth movements, part of Grand Teton National Park, an area just south of Yellowstone, was closed off yesterday due to a giant fissue opening up near the very scenic Jenny Lake. So we seem to have entered a very active period of earth shattering geology. I think there are either 29 or 30 active volcanos erupting right now.

Dan, for Cleopatra Victorious, I'd like the cover to look different than with CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED. I have gotten feedback that the cover was not very professional, and I'd like it to look more like the covers pictured here.

https://www.amazon.com/Cleopatras-Daughter-Egyptian-Royals-Collection-ebook/dp/B002NXOQHK/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1532193931&sr=8-1&keywords=cleopatra%27s+daughter

Similar but not identical. I confess I had this in mind when I was writing it.

In my author role, I'm continuing to work on "The Sword of Kamehameha," and, given I've just retired from university teaching, I hope to quickly advance the approximately 3,000 word work to the required 42,000 in relatively short order. It's been on my computer, calling me to finish it, and I've made several trips to Japan to visualize several scenes accurately. The work traces the life of a national treasure katana sword from its inception in feudal Japan to its involvement in the wars of early Hawaii which eventually led to the unification of the islands under the monumental king, Kamehameha I. Traversing Japan and Hawaii, it is an epic tale based on historical events delineated in the meles recorded by former Hawaiian King David Kalakaua.

Unprofessional? Who came up with that crazy idea? Covers are supposed to do two things: attract the attention of a browsing readers to the book in a pile of others; and entice the reader to pick it up, turn it over and read the synopsis. CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED (Savant 2015)'s cover does that in a visually stunning way according to the readers and booksellers who have communicated with us. On the other hand, covers come in a variety of styles, most being a publisher's particular visual "brand;" hence, there are many different cover presentations. Savant/Aignos is known for its straightforward covers and outstanding content. I've received nothing but praise for the cover of CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED (Savant 2015). A final word about anything in the world today: disparagement is one of the new business tactics, designed to make one feel less than equal to others, and a powerful but unethical tool to entice change. We don't use disparagement in Savant/Aignos, relaying instead on an overall commitment to excellence.

CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED by Helen R. Davis - Excerpt #1 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

[12515785-helen-davis-cleopatra-unconquered-savant-2015]

"Prologue

"It is with aged fingers but clarity of mind that I take pen to hand to write this brief memoir. What the Gods and Goddesses will ultimately do with it, I know not. These are turbulent times in Egypt, Rome, Greece and Heaven. Whether future generations will read, know or remember my words is known only to the great Goddess, Isis, who in her infinite wisdom, refrains from sharing the whole of the results of our accomplishments with us during our mortal lifetime, be we Pharaoh, Queen, royalty or commoner.

"But this I do know, the Goddess having appeared to me in her many guises repeatedly throughout my life: Whatever my fate, another even more glorious life awaits me when, at last, my spirit returns to her outstretched arms.

"This memoir, then, is not of my life and fate as I will be remembered by mortalsthat will be written by historiansbut of the promised whole of my life, as the Goddess Isis has seen appropriate to disclose to me."

The first book of three in a richly imagined ancient world where the course of history is altered by one battle. In this world, Antony and Cleopatra triumph at the Battle of Actium, and Cleopatra emerges as a queen, stateswoman, and politician. Those around her come to life as the reader returns to those days to live them with her.
