QUANTUM DEATH by A. G. Hayes with Raymond Gaynor - Excerpt #1 (This Excerpt is Family Rated):
Susan Koski eased out of bed without making a sound. Joseph Falk never moved, the top of his head showing from beneath the covers assured her he was fast asleep. Slowly she crept to the bedroom door, turned the knob...and the bedside phone rang. Koski immediately recognized the voice of their boss, Tom Stewart, head of Cerberus, America's ultra-secret "off the board" information and action agency.
"[Both of ] you on the line,?" Stewart asked, continuing a moment later, "Good. Now...listen up."
There was a soft click and the tone on the line changed. Both Koski and Falk knew what was coming was top secret. "We have a problem."
Koski looked across the bed, raised her eyebrows and mouthed the words...Happy Birthday.
Koski and Falk come up against what very well may prove to be their most complex and dangerous case yet: The Quantum Death Machine. For the first time, Koski and Falk must separate during a mission. Each faces mortal peril, while, at the same time, their smoldering relationship begins to heat up. The fifth in the riveting Koski and Falk Series by multi-award-winning author A. G. Hayes with Raymond Gaynor, author of TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wildside)

A WHALE'S TALE by Daniel S. Janik - Excerpt #1 (Family Rated)
“Chapter 1 - Twenty Feet Under
The tropical sky blushed every imaginable color of blue. Gentle waves reached up to the sky like a playful pack of ponies running towards land, their silvery manes fluttering in the gentle trade winds. Brilliant sunlight splashed down from the sky as if on a golden waterfall happily emptying into a bright blue sea.
Sorry, little one, I don’t know if it was a school day or the weekend because, well, every day in Hawaii is paradise. But this was not just any day, because, you see, I had just finished my afternoon nap, and opened my eyes twenty feet under water.
Twenty feet under water! But that's impossible, you say...”
With those words begins the adventures of a juvenile humpback whale on his life journey from Hawaii to Alaska. Written by Naturalist Daniel S. Janik for adults to read aloud to children, and for youth up to 16 years of age to read and enjoy, this 92 page, 8.25" x 5" softcover book was written to foster children's curiosity and discovery. "As a consequence, Rob soon had to take to wearing high-draw flack when traveling between his home and workplace, and his flack was, of course, the very best. Not only could it ward off and mitigate almost assaultive programs and weaponry directed at it, but it adapted itself exquisitely to whatever he chose to wear, even the thin molecular covering of his custom ShimmerSuit. Flack like his was still relatively new, making him of incredibly more public interest to Terrans and visitors. Rob’s Flack molecularly diffused upon any sudden attempted intrusion directed at him, first confusing any would-be assailant as to exactly what and where the target was, and second, by absorbing the intrusive instrument and impact into itself, should the instrument actually connect. A bullet from an illegal vintage handgun -- handguns were outlawed since the 2030’s worldwide -- would, for example, be completely deflected, while a blade might be completely absorbed. A hand, moving slower, should he desire it, could be allowed to slip through, allowing those he permitted to have flesh-to-flesh contact. This latter innovation was state-of-the-art, and proved wonderfully amusing at clubs and parties -- and an outstanding marketing device which Rob never hesitated to use when introduced to new clients, especially ultra-rich ones."Flacked and suited, Rob was always ready and eager for another day’s action at Slams. In truth, the hardest part of the day, aside from dealing with a blatantly visible erection, was getting there. Slams was an easy, across-town jaunt from where he lived, but in people terms, that meant navigating through and negotiating with perhaps several million people in the course of getting there. For most urban pedestrians, it was a daily problem of checking where the largest crowds were and generally avoiding them while slowly working one's way towards the destination. For the now infamous Draff Rob Brie, however, any path was a minefield of admirers, sycophants, hustlers and criminals, all well aware of his sally, draw and contro value..."
