Aloha Daniel. I am in between Saturday activities right now with my daughter, so I have about 30 mins today for the chat. Just wanted to put in a quick plug for ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK, which is at a temporary stand-still right now, but I will have more events for it next year starting in March. Haven't been able to get anything lined up for the holidays other than trying some auctions online and sales locally. Still trying to give it some legs though.

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK by Keith R. Rees - Excerpt #1 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

[12714186-one-night-in-bangkok-by-keith-rees]

Chapter 1 – The Terminal

He had just awakened from what seemed like several hours of sleep. He stretched his toes
in his shoes and tried his best to stretch his arms without disturbing the person sitting next to
him. As he tried to shake the sleep from his eyes, he slowly noticed his surroundings. The seats
in front of him were much further away than normal. He tried to remember if he had been moved
up to first class or business class, but he could not. Lots of leg room, he thought to himself. Very
nice! Glancing over at his seat companion, he could tell that the enormous man was happy about
the ample leg room as well. He was a tremendous man with dark skin and stared straight ahead
as if he were in a trance. Miles straightened in his seat and tried not to stare at him. I'd hate to
tick this guy off, he thought to himself. He gazed around the cabin but no one was standing and
he did not see any flight attendants. He could tell the plane was descending so he assumed they
would be landing shortly. What he did notice was the unusual cabin of the aircraft. The length
and the width were abundantly large. Larger than any plane he had ever been on before. Wow! he
thought. This must be one of those fancy new ones…
Miles Devereaux, an ordinary, working class, family man, is thrust sixty years into the dazzling
futuristic world of 2065 Bangkok, and into a life-and-death game of chess where the players and
pieces' fates depend on each player's acumen. Requiring Miles to match wits and physical skills
with an array of opponents while faced with solving the mystery of his time travel and how to
return to his own time, ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK is a riveting adventure set in what might
very well be our own future.

Doffing my publisher's hat, I'm pleased to report that two of the three books I'm privileged to edit, CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS by Helen R. Davis, and TRUTH AND TELL TRAVEL THE SOLAR SYSTEM, again by Helen R. Davis are solidly into polishing and should be released sometime in the next few months. My third book I'm editing, 68 VIA CONDOTTI: ETERNITY, LTD by A. G. Hayes is nearing graduation from editing to polishing and should be out sometime in the next three to four months.

CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS by Helen R. Davis takes up where CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED ends, portraying in alt. history form what Egyptian Queen Cleopatra and her Roman Consort, Marc Antony, might have accomplished. What exactly, you ask? How about a universal Egyptian Catholic Church instead of a Roman Catholic Church for starters. We plan to follow up CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS with CLEOPATRA MAGNIFICA, a sequel already written and ready for editing!

TRUTH AND TELL TRAVEL THE SOLAR SYSTEM by Helen R. Davis tells the story of two unusual cosmic travelers, Truth and Tell, as they search for a new home in our solar system. Designed to inspire a love and curiosity in astronomy and science, as well as address the concepts of rational truth and emotion, this next in Savant's COLOR-ME-PLEASE series will wholly engage children and adults in an extra-terrestrial solar panoply of information and fun.

68 VIA CONDOTTI: ETERNITY LTD by A. G. Hayes begins an intended three-book serial beginning with the introduction of artificially intelligent beings into our current society and the ramifications thereof. In traditional Koski and Falk style, this work picks up where FINDING KATE and QUANTUM DEATH leave of and serves as the third in his Kate Keenan Special Agent series.

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK by Keith R. Rees - Excerpt #2 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

[12714186-one-night-in-bangkok-by-keith-rees]

Chapter 2 – The Pawns

He left the tavern and stepped out into the busy terminal. It was still very crowded with
people going every which way. Glancing up at the marquee, he saw that ground transportation
was just ahead. He stepped onto the crowded moving sidewalk and was whisked away in that
direction. He saw another sign for the outside terminus. He hopped off the sidewalk and made
his way down another speedy escalator. It was longer than he imagined. It must have descended
at least ten floors. When he reached the bottom, he knew it must be the right place. Just outside
the giant entry doors to the terminal he could see the long, sleek, tubular transports that he had
seen from the air. They came in all different sizes; there were some to accommodate many
people and some for one or two passengers. Curling his lip, Miles uttered, "Well at least they still
have buses and taxis."

Keith R. Rees has been writing professionally for over 20 years. ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK, a
science fiction work, is the first installment in what is projected to become The One Night
Trilogy. He has always been a fan of science fiction, particularly stories that involve time travel,
and writes stories that have both realistic and human sides to them.

"One Night in Bangkok is a time travel adventure that science fiction fans will enjoy but I'm
hoping fans of other genres as well, such as mystery, suspense and humor," says Rees. "The
trilogy is based on time travel but at the heart of it all is a powerful story about family."

G'Morning Keith,

As a science fiction fan myself, I can say having read ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK (Savant 2018) several times now, that it is an innovative and totally immersive work that begs for a sequel. I teethed as a young writer on Philip K. Dick, Robert A. Heinlein, Anne McCaffrey and Ursula K. Le Guin. That's a formidable group within which I think ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK deserves to be placed. So, are you writing a sequel?

During the holidays, my activities are typically restricted to visiting book clubs and holding several of my own author book parties.

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK by Keith R. Rees - Excerpt #3 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

[12714186-one-night-in-bangkok-by-keith-rees]

Chapter 4 – The Knight

The streets were quiet as he walked, but he could hear the faint sounds of activity
somewhere in the vicinity. It almost sounded like another open-air market or a street fair. But
then another sound could be heard. He could hear something that sounded eerily familiar echoing
down the darkened alleys. It was eerie because he could not see it but also exciting at the same
time. What could it be? he thought to himself. The sound came closer. It was either the low
rumbling hum of an engine motor, or the low, sustained growl of a dragon. Whatever it was,
Miles had a feeling it was most certainly meant to get his attention.

About this Book:

As he awakens on a plane, Miles Devereaux is confused, disoriented and otherwise oblivious to
what has happened to him. As the plane descends into an eye-popping spectacle of a city that is
unlike any other, he soon discovers he has awakened sixty years in the future in the dazzling city
of Bangkok. Soon, he is on a visionary adventure and battle to save himself in a real-life game of
chess. Miles is challenged with quickly adapting to an array of ingenious technology and
engineering marvels of the future as well as the ancient and deadly arts of the past. He must
match wits and physical skills with an array of colorful opponents, all the while catching a
glimpse of the sensational future. He slowly pieces together the mystery of his time travel and
how he can return to his own time before time runs out. What he does not know is he only has
one night to accomplish the impossible. One night to discover. One night to survive. One night in
Bangkok!

About the Author:

I've always been a storyteller. Even before I knew I could be a writer I loved telling stories. In
summers during my college days I worked as a counselor at summer camp for kids in East Texas.
Each night at bedtime in our cabin, I would sit in the middle of the floor and tell the kids science
fiction stories about outer space. The kids were never so quiet until these times as they would
hang on my every word. And each night after that, they would all remind me where I left off the
night before, which was a good thing because I was just making it all up as I went along!
I've always been inspired by other author's stories, movies and especially music. I had the good
fortune to be able to travel in my teens. I spent my first year in college overseas as an exchange
student on the island of Malta with my brother. After that we got to see a great deal of Europe as
well. And since then I have been able to see many fascinating places around the world. I've
observed how other countries live and the ways of their cultures. Everywhere I go though, I
always have some music with me and my vivid imagination.
It was these experiences and my propensity to use music as my springboard to bring my
imagination to life in words. At the age of twenty-six, I discovered I could write poetry. I became
obsessed with it. I could never find a pen and pad fast enough when ideas came pouring from my
mind. But during these twelve years of writing poetry, I always kept actual story ideas in mind,
brewing on the back burner as one might say. Some ideas I jotted own, some I just kept in my
head. And in 2007, I made the leap from poetry to novel writing. Eleven years and five novels
later, I haven't looked back. I even managed to put together two collections of my poetry during
that time. But writing novels has become my passion.

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK is now my sixth novel and first with Savant Books and
Publications. It is the first of what is to become the One Night Trilogy. Parts two and three
(novels seven and eight for me) of this trilogy are already completed. And I've just begun work
on number nine, which is going to be a good old fashioned ghost story.
My stories are from multiple genres, including modern literature, fiction, historical fiction and
now science fiction with ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK. They are all available on Amazon.com
and other popular book sites.

Doffing my Editor's hat and donning my Author's hat, I'm sad to announce that my mother, outstanding artist and illustrator of both A WHALE'S TALE (Savant 2019) and THE TURTLE DANCES (Savant 2013) passed from this world in late October. Not many authors have a mother who was not only artistically and literarily talented, but was an avid amateur archeologist to boot! We had been talking about her illustrating THE GECKO SINGS, a manuscript I am hopeful to publish now in memoriam

My other two works in development, THE SWORD OF KAMEHAMEHA and THE EDGE OF MADNESS are both progressing, having visited Kamekura, Japan, for background last month, and received one of those precious aha! moments regarding the central tenant of THE EDGE OF MADNESS, namely, M-Superstring Theory. Intrigued? I hope so. I'm thoroughly enjoying writing them.

Thanks Daniel. That is high praise, I appreciate that. As a young reader, I really enjoyed Ray Bradbury and Kurt Vonnegut Jr.  There were many other science fiction inspirations along the way that led me to write ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK.  And YES, there is are 2 sequels already completed, begging to reach the reader public. The story of Miles Devereaux continues right where ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK leaves off, albeit in another time and place I can't disclose as of yet, gotta keep people guessing! [smile]

I'm sorry to be so short today but my parental duties call again. Busy day here in good old Austin, Texas. See you next time and aloha!

Adding to your most recent post, as an author, everyone on my holiday gift list receives exactly what they anticipate and want: one or more books, sometimes a new one of mine, like KINDRED - 2019 SAVANT POETRY ANTHOLOGY or one of a fellow Savant/Aignos author. I've given many gifts over the years, but everyone who knows me as an author looks forward to receiving either a printed book, or, if they're digitally inclined, an eBook.

THE TURTLE DANCES by Daniel S. Janik - Excerpt #1 (Family Rated)

[1]

"Chapter 1 - Peach Moon

Viewed from the middle of the bay, the night would have been pitch dark, but for the huge, round, blushing pink Hawaiian moon, resting like a big ripe peach just above the horizon. Above and behind, the sky, a black velvet blanket, was dusted with pin-point stars. Ahead, along the sandy beach, the evening trade winds rustled the long fronds of tall coconut trees growing on the far side of a sidewalk that wandered behind low mounds of cool, wet sand.

The beach was pretty much as Isla, the Green Sea Turtle, thought it should look, taste and feel from her childhood memories. Of course, it wasn’t exactly the same. There were small differences—the coarseness of the sand granules, their slightly cooler temperature, and something she couldn’t quite put her flipper on..."

-----

Isla, a Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle resting on the beach at Waikiki, notices a dance couple practicing a partner routine for a dance competition. Intrigued, she decides she, too, wants to dance, and more so, partner dance. But how to do it?

Written for adults to read aloud to their children, and youth to 16 years of age to read and enjoy. Lavishly illustrated in black and white for reader coloring opportunities.

The third in the Savant "COLOR-ME-PLEASE" children's book series.
