I amnot much into dark poetry or novels. Never been a fan of Twlight, for example. There is some dark fantasy in my series, but I do not figure it a good thing to dwell on evil or depression.

I have an active blog and one of my favorite blogging topics is astronomy. Even though A. G. Hayes and I are splitting royalties on QUANTUM DEATH (Savant 2016), it and my other published work, TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wildside 2013) are doing well enough to tip my telescope fund over the top. I just purchased a Skywatcher 180mm Matsukov-Cassegrain telescope and turned it on Venus, the bright evening "star" over Waikiki a couple of nights ago, after which I visually travelled to the moon. Anyone out there a fellow astronomer?

QUANTUM DEATH by A. G. Hayes with Raymond Gaynor- Excerpt #2 (This Excerpt is Restricted due to graphic content):

[12541533-quantum-death-by-hayes-with-raymond-gaynor]

"Mr. Hempsted. It's Agent Falk," he said working his way through the door and cautiously around to the front of the chair. "I visited you earlier, and was wondering if we might…"

Aaron Hempsted was sitting, head erect, rheumy bloodshot eyes fixed open, staring at Falk, his mouth limply agape, his unshaven face even whiter than before. A bloodless hand gripped each of the threadbare chair arms, making it appear as if he were pushing himself back into the seat. A small rivulet of dark, coagulated blood had worked its way alongside his nose and down one cheek from a small, round entry hole in the middle of his forehead. The man's shocked expression was accentuated by a halo of dark red blood splattered behind the man's resting head onto a white embroidered doily draped over the back of the easy chair.

Falk squatted, raising his weapon and holding it with both hands as he swept the room…

 ------------

Multi-award winning author A. G. Hayes studied television writing at UCLA and has published short fiction, "Cover up" - "Not a Penny Pincher” - "Home" - "Payment in Full" - "Small Wonder" - Fate Magazine-"Guided Through a Mine Field" and other scripts to CBS TV and other television productions. He lives in Northern California, and spends his time writing and traveling to nearly every part of the world. He has used personal experiences gained during service with the British intelligence in Eastern Europe and the Middle East to enrich the characters of his protagonist teams. "Quantum Death is a deeply human story beyond up-to-date that pushes the edge of the envelope," says Hayes. "Despite being parted, their relationship never stops developing and the story never loses the quintessential Koski and Falk."

Raymond Gaynor is the pen-name of a multi-award-winning, reclusive writer-artist-photographer-videographer, who, in his own words, "lives and breathes" San Francisco. He is co-author with William Maltese on the Tripler and Clarke gay political thriller, TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wildside 2011) and is the author of numerous fiction and non-fiction works published under a number of pseudonyms. "When co-authoring a work, it's always first in my mind to preserve the first author's style and voice, which I believe readers will find well accomplished," says Gaynor. "A close second is to add significantly to the work, which was incredibly easy and fun when working with A. G. Hayes. I think this is reflected in the adventure's compelling yet clean, easy read. Love Koski and Falk. Who couldn't?"

Dear Lynn,

So is that title ' A Real daughter" or '"A Real Daughter?" I think that the plot sounds fascinating although I am going to have to look up the native plant movement as I am unfamiliar with it. It is my belief that we all contain more potential than we think we do and society does a lot to keep those potentials contained.

THE TURTLE DANCES by Daniel S. Janik - Excerpt #3 (Family Rated)

"Chapter 13 - The Turtle Dances

"You know what?" The young man offered, thinking of the two turtles they'd been watching. “We danced so well together, I think we might just win!"

"You know, I think so, too,“ replied his partner. “Thanks to our turtle-friends out there," the two finished together.

The couple returned, hand-in-hand, to the dance floor to join the line of competitors. Waiting for the judges to announce the awards, the young man turned to his now self-assured partner, touched the tip of her hand softly much the way the turtles had, and smiled. "The turtle dances," he said softly.

"Yes," she replied, while unseen in the distance, Isla and Surf happily executed a perfect bounce, twirl and slide. "The turtle dances!"

 ----------

Continuing the unique tradition of "talking up" rather than down to readers, THE TURTLE DANCES demonstrates the power and beauty of narrative storytelling at its finest. Designed to re-awaken curiosity, discovery in both children and adults, the book is an excellent way to introduce literacy and associated lifelong learning pleasures.

Mulit-award-winning author, naturalist, artist, photographer and movie producer Daniel S. Janik resides in Honolulu, Hawaii with his wife and dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya. Together they welcome Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles to Hawaii throughout the year. An Oklahoma painter known for her vivid, almost photographic renditions of nature, illustrator Ruth R. Janik created the 28 naturalistic line drawings in the book specifically for children to color.

THE TURTLE DANCES is the third in the Savant "Color-Me-Please" series and the third in the author's "Pacific Rim Naturalist" group of children's books.

Well, Folks,

We're less than 30 minutes to the end of the book giveaway and this month's chat. Now's the time to post your answers to the book giveaway and your final excerpts. It's been a lively and enjoyable chat, and I hope you will join me in next month's chat on 18 February 2017 from 7 to 10 a.m. Hawaii Standard Time.

Me, I love dark poetry. It's one of the two faces of Janus and of human life: Comedy and tragedy. Don't forget the 2018 Call for Poetry for the 2018 Savant Poetry Anthology -- our guest editor for the 2018 and 2019 volumes will be multi-award winning poet and author, "Doc" Krinberg.

QUANTUM DEATH by A. G. Hayes with Raymond Gaynor - Excerpt #3 (This Excerpt is Family Rated):

[12541533-quantum-death-by-hayes-with-raymond-gaynor]

As the plane began to descend from cruising altitude on approach to Honolulu, its sole occupant listened, aghast at what was being reported by the Russian military scientists through the Russian interpreter. There would be a flurry of Russian, only a little of which she could understand, then a crusty pause followed by the slow, almost mechanical voice of the military linguistic interpreter.

"Maybe ten years ago…yes, ten years…the Russian military…tasked a secret…'think tank' I think you would call it…to theorize a weapon that could…destroy a nation's infrastructure…without harming it's basic resources, including its people. Over."

"A 'weapon'? Over." she asked of the disembodied voice on the other end of the crackling but secure line.

"I'm sorry. Exact translation is difficult. Perhaps 'a solution' or 'an approach'…the idea was to theorize a weapon or solution or approach…that could take the place of nuclear weapons. Mutually Assured Destruction—MAD—was never a solution acceptable to our military leaders. Over."

"And they came up with…?" she probed.

"They came up with…the kvantovaya mashina smerti…the 'Quantum Death Machine'…which our researchers here believe is…being deployed against the United States of America."

About this Book:

It was an honor and privilege to be asked to join with A. G. Hayes in the continued creation of protagonist Koski and Falk's world of international intrigue. In this fifth in the Koski and Falk series, the two face both a political and technological conundrum of global proportion, which threatens the very foundations of democracy, free trade and capitalism. In QUANTUM DEATH (Savant 2016), Koski and Falk must pursue separate assignments to find the kvantovaya mashina smerti, or Quantum Death Machine, the pursuit of which seems destined to end in certain death, all while holding desperately onto to their budding feelings for each other.

In the process, meet Thomas Steward, their handler and ostensible leader of the ultra- secret Cerebrus organization, as he returns to the field in a last swan song. And Kate Keenan, an old flame of Falk's, willing to fight Koski for his love and affection. And Alexei Korov, the affable captain of the Russian Yassin-class fast-attack submarine Severodvinsk, who finds himself center-stage in what might very well be the next and final nuclear war, as well as a host of other larger-as-life characters from what ultimately proves to be Koski and Falk's past, present and future.

About the Authors:

A. G. Hayes

I was searching for a Koski and Falk adventure in-between THE CHEMICAL FACTOR (Savant 2015) and FINDING KATE (Savant, 2016), while blue-sky chatting with Raymond Gaynor, author of the Tripler and Clark series politico-techno-thriller TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wildside 2013), suddenly, in a synchronous "ah-ha" moment, we came up with the plot for QUANTUM DEATH (Savant 2016).

The work emerged in its entirety over the next couple months, with Koski and Falk naturally assuming positions as key protagonists, and my new protagonist, Kate Keenan of FINDING KATE fame in an unusual half-antagonist/half-protagonist role. In QUANTUM DEATH the duo becomes a trio, at the least in the sense of a tense romantic triangle and at the worst a doomed ménage à trois, the outcome of which will ultimately determine the course of Koski and Falk's growing relationship.

The work surrounds the existence of the enigmatic and elusive kvantovaya mashina smerti, or Quantum Death Machine, an imaginary device based on research Raymond and I did surrounding M-Superstring Theory and Quantum Science.

QUANTUM DEATH is a perfect segue into FINDING KATE, which is actually a prequel to QUANTUM DEATH. Love those relationships, don't you?

Raymond Gaynor

It's difficult to point a finger at whose idea both the plot and romance twists were in QUANTUM DEATH (Savant 2016). It seemed like they came about simultaneously and serendipitously for both A. G. Hayes and myself during a series of phone chats about a new Koski and Falk adventure between THE CHEMICAL FACTOR (Savant 2015) and FINDING KATE (Savant, 2016). I had the pleasure of experiencing something like this when William Maltese and I came up with TOTAL MELTDOWN (Borgo/Wildside 2013). With William Maltese, it was a directed synergy; with A. G. it was as if the characters spoke to us and told us each what to write. Spiritual, some might call it.

One of the advantages of being a published author is meeting others, especially those destined for greatness like A. G. Hayes and William Maltese. Writing with them is a thrill I'll never forget. It's one of those life-defining moments. Since QUANTUM DEATH, A. G. and I have continued our lively phone chats. Who knows what other adventures may pop up? In the end, I can only say that it is the authoring journey that defines one, and, if some suitable stories appear along the way, all the better.

But now it's time to stop talking about QUANTUM DEATH and commend it to you for your reading. I think you'll find within its pages and its twisty plot all the makings of a can't-put-it-down "good read."

Guess there's not astronomical authors on the chat at this time. Darn. I did so look forward to making some connections. I post photos of what's visible in the Honolulu area on my various blogs as well as Facebook and Twitter.

Mahalo (thank you) and Good-bye till next month's Savant / Aignos online realtime text chat. No one posted for the free giveaway so I'll it away for next month. this is humpback whale season here in Hawaii, so I'll be traveling frequently to the Northshore of Oahu to view them and refresh my wonder of them. It's also turtle time, so after whale watching, we commonly retire to a nearby warm beach and welcome the Hawaiian Green Sea turtles. In deference to Raymond, I'll be sure to look at the night sky and allow my inner child to soak up their beauty.

Bye to all for now!
