Ho, ho, ho, and Happy Holiday Season!

It's a typical winter morning at Savant headquarters in warm, sunny, Honolulu, Hawaii, USA, and even if you're not physically here, you can so be at least in spirit.

Welcome to the Saturday 17 December 2016 Savant Books and Publications Online Realtime Text Chat, the last one in 2016. While we make final preparations for the holidays, a whole new year awaits with the one thing we can count on in life: change.

As you know, Savant has acquired Aignos Publishing Inc, and, effective 1 January 2017, Aignos Publishing LLC will become an imprint of Savant.

Savant -- the world standard in enduring literary works with a twist that leave readers with a new perspective on the world / Aignos -- avant garde, experimental and inventive works that push the leading edge in all genres of fiction and non-fiction.

So what does an "imprint" mean?  First, it will have its own home, author, coming works and submissions internet pages, but Savant and Aignos works will appear mixed in together on the Savant Marketplace at

https://mkt.com/savant-books-and-publications

Second, Savant and Aignos works will appear mixed in together in both Savant Bookstore Honolulu and Savant Distribution. Third, Savant and Aignos will share staff, and events, blogs, chat, annual gathering, call for poetry, about/jobs and in-the-news webpages. Fourth, and most important, the two publishing houses will greatly expand our publishing horizons, making, for instance, a second publishing house available to all Savant or Aignos authors. Authors need more than one publishing house in order to meet author royalty expectations. Two is definitely better than one!

All that being said, it's time to begin our chat!

Welcome Savant and Aignos authors!  I had hoped that Aignos Publishing would have sent out an email informing Aignos authors and staff about the upcoming "merger," welcoming them to the Savant family and inviting them to attend our December chat. Alas, the former owner, Dr. Zachary M. Oliver, is ill, and so I anticipate this being formally accomplished over the holidays and the invitation to chat will be for our upcoming Saturday, 21 January, 2017 chat. We're all wishing you well, Zachary! Get better fast!

Did you know that Savant/Aignos publishes CDs and DVDs as well as softcover and digital books?  We do, and the range of possible genres and topics will expand greatly as of 1 January 2017 to include "avant garde, experimental and inventive works that push the leading edge in all genres of fiction and non-fiction." What that means in a broad sense will become clearer over the next several months, but one area we're particularly interested in is manga -- both printed and animated, including interactive manga.

On a separate topic, several authors have begun asking when and where our next "gathering" will be. Obviously it will include both Savant and Aignos, and if tradition holds, it will be sometime in March or April 2017. We will no longer co-host the Pacific Rim Book Festival awards, so the scope and extent of the gathering will likely change, but what our Director of Publicity and Marketing has in mind should pleasantly surprise everyone, authors, staff and public alike. Stay tuned and check the "Annual Gathering" tab regularly to see what's in store for the 2017 gathering.

I am still stuck in Hades after losing to that damn Cleopatra and Antony.
Everyday I have to watch them win the battle of Actium and then Tantalos comes over asking me for a cool drink and I am again reminded of how dry Hades is.
when is one of descendants going to make me a god so I can get out of here.

Unless someone directs a question to me as the publisher of Savant Books and Publications and Aignos Publishing, I'm going to take off that hat and put on my editor hat.

I have the pleasure of serving as Richard Rose's [of the award-winning THE LAZARUS CONSPIRACIES (Savant 2013) fame] editor for his upcoming work THE GUMSHOE (Savant, in preparation).  THE GUMSHOE is "Chicago, 1947. Private investigator “Matt” McBride runs afoul of corrupt politicians, vicious mobsters and a trigger-happy Texan femme fatale to prove that the “suicide” of his best friend was murder. Matt’s perilous journey to track down the killer nearly dead-ends in a motor home on collision course with a cargo plane." It's currently in the final stages of polishing and I expect it to be next in line after Andrew Massie's IN THE SHADOWS OF MY MIND for release. THE GUMSHOE is a delightful work that has undertones of detective noir, and reengages the reader in that ever-so-popular Sam Spade style.

Well, Dan, I am taking a break from editing the fourth in my Cleopatra series, CLEOPATRA TRIUMPHANT.  CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS na dCLEOAPTRA MAGNIFICA are ready to be submitted at the appropriate time.

I have a sci fi manuscript with a Christian based agent that will present it to her editors. I have a good feeling about this one and so does the agent. i've spoken to you abuot this plot line before.

EVITA: MY LIFE will begin editing with Custom Book Productions after Christmas.

There was a new arrival here from someplace called Cuba and he smuggled in this strange tablet. I tell him what to type and he does it. He is annoyed like I am that no one follows his commands anymore.

Wow! The future at Savant Books and Publications looks awesome, and I am very happy to be an author here. I am very excited about finishing the edits on StoryTeller yesterday, and will send it back to David soon. Additionally, I have reached out to multiple people in my target audience, to include local bands, fellow occultists, and friends in the Navy, and I hope to get good marketing support with their reading. Presently, I am most interested in what you will think of StoryTeller here. I was able to further refine it, surprising myself at what became of the story.

Considering the expansion of Savant, is there any interest in expanding into an audiobook aspect of the publishing industry? I have been experimenting with narrations and audio media and invested in equipment to do professional audio recordings, and if there are authors that would like narrations done, I'd be happy to concentrate my energy on their work and help them out. I managed to produce an audio cd for a self-published work I created recently and think I can manage making more when I get more resources. Though my audio work lacks editing and is pretty much a one time read through, or a tell from memory, I can improve to studio quality pretty easily and help authors reach a new outlet with a similar business philosophy that Savant Books and Publications employs in paying it forward for a win-win (as I see it).

Please excuse me if this is uncouth in any way. I don't leave my home much, if I can help it, and it makes me seem a savage in society at times.

Cheers!

For those of you either new to this chat, or completely befuddled over "Mike Davis Channeling" postings, we allow characters to appear on our chat, too. So, okay, Octavian, it's well, can't say it's nice to hear from a dark character like you, but we welcome everyone to our chat, as long as they remain civil [definitely not something Octavian's know for in CLEOPATRA UNCONQUERED (Savant 2015)]. As for Groundhog Day, well, I'm certain everyone's had their own style of super deja vu. So what's Hades like these days [wink]
