Aloha -- Sorry about being late to open the chat. Between the holiday rush and the flu, I've been somewhat out-of-it. But I'm in it now!

Let's begin!

Hello to all! I am Cleopatra VII, queen of Egypt. I am pleased to join you all today.

This lovely holiday you are celebrating, Christmas, reminds me of Saturnalia, a Roman holiday I don't care too much for.  But it seems you all enjoy it in this time period.

I have arrived in today's world courtesy of Helen R. Davis, the scribe that the goddess Isis has anointed to pen my story and rewrite as  she wished it. I find your nation of 'America' to be an interesting model of my Greek ancestors.   I also am intrigued by what has befallen Europa today. Domina Helen tells me that out of Rome have grown nations called England, France, Spain, Italy and others. I am most intrigued by France, as Helen says it is the land that  my first husband, Julius Caesar, conquered as Gaul.  But I am also intrigued to see what has befallen Italy, the land of my husbands.   Helen tells me England rose to greatness during these 2000 years. My, I am learning much!

I am intriuged that people tell me 'Merry Christmas', so that is how I will greet you all. Merry Christmas, as Domina Helen says.

I read aloud "The Road Not Taken" by Robert Frost at my friend's funeral yesterday.
In getting ready to read I learned it was published in 1916 as a whimsical commentary about
one of his hiking buddies who dithered about which way to go every time they came to a fork in the path.
Frost was stunned when readers and listeners viewed it as a profoundly philosophical insight. So
I note that even great writers and poets do not always know the impact their words and stories may have on the those who listen or read their works. So In encourage everyone to create away and Savant/Aignos publish it.

October-November-December are always our busiest months, the activity increasing to a head the day before Christmas and again the day before New Year's.  This quarter was no exception, except for the seeming lack of author purchases of books for holiday presents. I'm an author, too, and all my relatives and friends look forward to a book for the holidays. I pick those Savant/Aignos works that I personally love, and share them widely. Shipping is a breeze, as books are small and compact; for families, I use USPS "Flat Rate" Priority Mail to offset the weight and get everything there on time, even before Santa.

This month is also one during which prospective authors often try to "get things out before the new year." We've six works vieing for the coveted December release, and Daniel Bradford's BO HENRY AT THREE FORKS (our first Savant Western!) is poised and almost ready for release. Right behind it is E. M. Duesel's ILLEGAL, an Aignos publication. I look forward to seeing them out within the next couple weeks at most.

This is the time of year when we're busily accepting poems for the 2018 Savant Poetry Anthology. If you would like to be part of it, don't wait till the midnight 31 December 2017 deadline. Send in your up to five submission now!  See http://www.savantbooksandpublications.com/poetry.php for more information and submission details. This is also the time of the year when we're looking for unpublished manuscript submissions for the 2018 publishing year. If you've been thinking about submitting a sequel, a new work, or a screenplay-novel for publication, there's no better time! Have a writer friend whose work you think deserves publication? Send them to us now!

Your Savant/Aignos staff have been working hard this past half year to take advantage of our increasingly strong reputation and number of publications to affiliate with additional distributors. It's a long and expensive effort, but we're hoping the new year will see us with one or hopefully two additional distributors of our works.

Aloha Queen Cleopatra. Perhaps instead of Merry Christmas, I should say "Happy Isismas?" What will you be doing on this fortuitous holiday? Are you still at odds with "King" Herod? What do you think of Jerusalem as the new capital of Israel?

I am honored to be the editor of your scribe for the second in the Savant Cleopatra series, CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS (in preparation).

As for Rome, while I honor it as the nation of both of your husbands, I am more curious about Coptic Egypt. How will it evolve in a world where Rome's power is not greater than, but at best, equal to Egypt's. What, as we would say today, is your political agenda for becoming victorious?

Welcome, Michael. I hope I didn't steal your thunder about our distribution work. It's the correct time for Savant/Aignos to aspire to a additional distributorships given our size and reputation. Acquiring Aignos Publishing this year, elevated us from a small to a medium (or "regular") publisher. Now it's time to readjust our business relationships to reflect such.

Snow? Is that anything like the white ash that falls from the sky here in Hawaii after they burn a cane field? Doesn't compact into balls or snow persons well (snow persons -- that's the right term in these increasingly gender aware days isn't it?). Even with sweet syrup on it, it taste's icky. On the other hand, when I heard about your Wyoming weather, I immediately went to the kitchen, opened the freezer, stuck my head in, and, satisfied I knew what cold and ice were like, changed into my swimming trunks to go to the beach after this chat is over. Not only is it a beautiful day here (winters are my favorite), but the whales should be returning soon!

You may greet me however you please-- Merry Christmas, Happy Isismas, Happy Holidays. I will not be offended at any of them-- I will be pleased you took the time to say something kind!

My thoughts on Jerusalem are that that city has always been a Jewish one. The 'new' capital of Israel? It's always been, I believe. King David founded it a thousand years before my time, so I don't understand the fuss about it at all. It's a lovely city.  But I am surprised to see how it has changed from my time. King Herod is not a man I trust, but I cannot speak openly of this.I am saddened at the fate of my Egypt, but glad that Isis has chosen Helen to rewrite it.

My political agenda is only to preserve Egypt and unite it with Rome to make a great empire.  Coptic Egypt, I believe, is more open thand Rome was.

Your mention of "A Road Less Traveled" was timely, given that our call for poems for the 2018 Savant Poetry Anthology is fast ending. We've a new award-winning guest editor, Doc Krinberg, author of POLONIO PASS (Aignos 2014), THE DEEP SLUMBER OF DOGS (Aignos 2016) and coming soon, THE WINTER SPIDER (Aignos, in preparation).  Doc's poems have appeared in several multi-award-winning past issues of the Savant Poetry Anthology. I certainly look forward to submitting several poems for his consideration.

Cleopatra, we are so glad to hear from you! We were afraid you had left us for the
a permanent abode in the heavens. How is the family? And did you send me this strange message in a bootle?

Aliens and Frat Boys

Prologue

It is Pledge week at the UW when a young man’s fancy turns to fraternities, sorority beauties, mind-altering drugs, alcohol and hazing pranks.

Jim Smith-Jones had decided he would join the unusually named ‘Alpha and Omega” fraternity as they said they were the perfect match for Jim’s interests in sports and science! Jim had come to the UW on a baseball scholarship from Amanda, Iowa and he intended to major in physics, mainly because he was good at math and he liked the “The Big Bang Theory”.

The hazing prank was supposed to be funny. It was supposed to be safe. No one was supposed to be hurt. Dressed in all white togas his Alpha and Omega frat friends gave Jim drink after drink of rum and coke laced with antihistamines, they passed around a strange smelling cigar making him almost throw up, and his last memory was of a strange blonde beauty kissing him passionately.  Why is everything so hazy? Why am I falling down?

As they drove Jim’s snoring and comatose body out into the Shirley Basin, the frat friends were all too buzzed to notice the odd chill in the air, the increasing wind speed, nor the strange clouds gathering to the west.

One of more intriguing questions regarding your second book in your new memoirs, Queen, is how Egypt will act in regard to the heretic who is being called The Christ. Everyone seems to be wondering how Egypt will treat him. Will you invite him to join the world's best minds there at the Library in Alexandria? Will you want to meet him? And what about his proported heavenly queen, the Magdalene? Is she the reincarnation of Isis and he, Horus? So many possibilities, given Rome's general disdain for the Jewish zealots!

What? Is Queen Cleopatra introducing fraternities to Egypt? And by aliens, do you mean non-Egyptians or perhaps a return of the gods to earth after their long sojourn away?  :-) Tell me more, Michael and Cleo (if I may be so bold).

Wow, Dr Janik, such loaded questions! You are bold to question a queen this way.

I met the boy when he was a baby and I could see he had a great destiny. I do not believe I can stop him from being crucified and joining the gods, since what the gods dictate, we cannot tamper with, even being a pharaoh.

I joined Isis in heaven not long after he passed. I leave the questions you have asked to the hands of the great-granddaughter of mine. Her name is Cleopatra X, and she will be the protagonist in Helen's sequels to CLEOPATRA VICTORIOUS. Tentatively they will be titled CLEOPATRA MAGNIFICA and CLEOPATRA TRIUMPHANT.

This Magdalene intrigues me, but I do not believe her to be a goddess or divine consort.  I will say this in her defense though-- she was NOT a prostitute. In CLEOPATRA MAGNIFICA, she gives my great-granddaughter a great gift that will come in use in CLEOPATRA TRIUMPHANT to defeat the coming evil Pollio, who is known as AntiChrist.

THe Christ's mother, however, I enjoyed meeting. She has a glow like that of Isis.

Antony believes me to be too open and tolerant of this new sect. I see no harm in it though. It's the Alexandrian way. I feel they are better suited to Egypt than Rome myself

Aliens and frat boys, Dr Michael. I find it amusing. It brings to mind my parties with Antony, but also my father's drunkenness.

Dr. Michael, I am intrigued by your parenting as well as that of your wife's.  I adopted much of my philosophy from my father, though the people despised me for it. Dr Michael, what are YOUR thoughts on Christ, Israel, Egypt and Rome? And today's world?  Why is your daughter so intrigued with Gaul? What did Gaul become?

My mother remains one of history's mysteries. Isis has dictated to Helen that she was indeed the wife of Auletes, the rightful queen consort Cleopatra V. But historians do not know, as the name of Cleopatra V vanished at the time of my birth. Some have purported Cleopatra V to be synonymous with my sister, Cleopatra VI, who briefly ruled Egypt during my father's sojourn in Rome. THat would make me Cleopatra VI, rather than the VII. But  historians today do not know the identity of my mother.

Daniel Janik, you are bold to question the gods and a queen. Helen tells me that many in your time have become this bold.  I don't think the gods like it.
