Strange - my sidebar advertisement is about sandals. Imagine dancing in sandals!  I'd rather dance in scandals

IN SEARCH OF SOMATIC THERAPY by Setsuko Tsuchiya - Excerpt #3 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

"Somatic therapists, beginning with Wihelm Reich, would… include DMT[Dance Movement Therapy] and, massage therapy Rolfing acupressure, acupuncture and Reiki, which have basic, fundamental tools, techniques, approaches and resources. The big question is exactly what they have in common that would further define somatic therapy per se…As such, all…can be expected to have basic, fundamental 'movements' in common that are  part of somatic therapy's tools, techniques, approaches and resources that further uniquely define it."

[12625245-setsuko-tsuchiyas-in-search-of-somatic-therapy-savant-2017]

About this Book:

IN SEARCH OF SOMATIC THERAPY (Savant 2017) encapsulates the basic fundamental elements underlying dance, eurhymy and the laying on of hands—what I like to call “somatic therapy.” By that, I mean what can happen when humans come into contact with other living things. But it’s more than the somatic experience. It’s about the power to not just heal, but prevent illness and disease in a manner that’s both ancient and new.

It is my hope that readers will come away with a new perspective on the power of touch and the universal body language that it creates. In today’s world of specialization, I think of somatic therapy as a unifying discipline in which everyone can participate, enjoy and receive benefit. Young or old, active or infirm, irrespective of language and culture, bodies share a group of fundamental characteristics, and these ultimately define somatic therapy.

Somatic therapy, as I envision it, is the consequence of Dr. Wilhelm Reich’s earliest investigations into healing the mind by healing the body, rather than attempting, as his mentor and colleague, Dr. Sigmund Freud did, to heal the body by healing the mind.

I hope you will enjoy journeying with me back in time and forward into the future IN SEARCH OF SOMATIC THERAPY.

About the Author:

As an amateur DanceSport (ballroom/Latin dance) athlete and competitor as well as a medical massage therapist, I often felt a deep but unspoken connection between the two. During my university studies, I had the opportunity to further explore this connection. Thus began my search for somatic therapy.

At first, I thought that what dance and massage had in common was Dance Movement Therapy (DMT), a recognized form of psychological therapy. But being Japanese, I wanted something that was less language dependent and more body-based. I ultimately wanted to share what I discovered not only with English-speaking people, but Japanese speakers as well. It was this unique combination of wants that led me slowly away from DMT towards somatic therapy with the emphasis on the somatic or body rather than traditional psychological talk therapy.

I never thought of myself as an author; however, I found myself writing everything down, and eventually decided to organize and record it all in the form of a master’s thesis. That quickly led to my wanting to share what I’d discovered with a broader audience. I was so pleased when Savant Books and Publications agreed to publish my work.

In the future, I hope to travel, sharing what I’ve learned IN SEARCH OF SOMATIC THERAPY (Savant 2017).

THE TURTLE DANCES by Daniel S. Janik - Excerpt #3 (Family Rated)

"Chapter 13 - The Turtle Dances

"You know what?" The young man offered, thinking of the two turtles they'd been watching. “We danced so well together, I think we might just win!"

"You know, I think so, too,“ replied his partner. “Thanks to our turtle-friends out there," the two finished together.

The couple returned, hand-in-hand, to the dance floor to join the line of competitors. Waiting for the judges to announce the awards, the young man turned to his now self-assured partner, touched the tip of her hand softly much the way the turtles had, and smiled. "The turtle dances," he said softly.

"Yes," she replied, while unseen in the distance, Isla and Surf happily executed a perfect bounce, twirl and slide. "The turtle dances!"

-----

Continuing the unique tradition of "talking up" rather than down to readers, THE TURTLE DANCES demonstrates the power and beauty of narrative storytelling at its finest. Designed to re-awaken curiosity, discovery in both children and adults, the book is an excellent way to introduce literacy and associated lifelong learning pleasures.

Mulit-award-winning author, naturalist, artist, photographer and movie producer Daniel S. Janik resides in Honolulu, Hawaii with his wife and dance partner, Setsuko Tsuchiya. Together they welcome Hawaiian Green Sea Turtles to Hawaii throughout the year. An Oklahoma painter known for her vivid, almost photographic renditions of nature, illustrator Ruth R. Janik created the 28 naturalistic line drawings in the book specifically for children to color.

THE TURTLE DANCES is the third in the Savant "Color-Me-Please" series and the third in the author's "Pacific Rim Naturalist" group of children's books.

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK by Keith R. Rees - Excerpt #1 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

[12714186-one-night-in-bangkok-by-keith-rees]

Chapter 1 – The Terminal
He had just awakened from what seemed like several hours of sleep. He stretched his toes
in his shoes and tried his best to stretch his arms without disturbing the person sitting next to
him. As he tried to shake the sleep from his eyes, he slowly noticed his surroundings. The seats
in front of him were much further away than normal. He tried to remember if he had been moved
up to first class or business class, but he could not. Lots of leg room, he thought to himself. Very
nice! Glancing over at his seat companion, he could tell that the enormous man was happy about
the ample leg room as well. He was a tremendous man with dark skin and stared straight ahead
as if he were in a trance. Miles straightened in his seat and tried not to stare at him. I'd hate to
tick this guy off, he thought to himself. He gazed around the cabin but no one was standing and
he did not see any flight attendants. He could tell the plane was descending so he assumed they
would be landing shortly. What he did notice was the unusual cabin of the aircraft. The length
and the width were abundantly large. Larger than any plane he had ever been on before. Wow! he
thought. This must be one of those fancy new ones…
Miles Devereaux, an ordinary, working class, family man, is thrust sixty years into the dazzling
futuristic world of 2065 Bangkok, and into a life-and-death game of chess where the players and
pieces' fates depend on each player's acumen. Requiring Miles to match wits and physical skills
with an array of opponents while faced with solving the mystery of his time travel and how to
return to his own time, ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK is a riveting adventure set in what might
very well be our own future.

Well, Everyone, with less than 30 minutes to go on today's chat, now's the time to post your last excerpt(s) and comments!

I've especially enjoyed having a Savant poet present, and I hope, Ihar, you will join us again next month along with other poet-colleagues from the Florida area. Maybe this is the way to start the sister-city idea going?

Things have started picking up a little steam with ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK (Savant 2018). I've made a couple appearances at bookstores here in Austin and in San Antonio which had some nice turnout. I held my first "launch party" last week here in my neighborhood which had a low turn-out due to the weather, but was grateful to those who still braved the hard rain.

Next week I'll be in McKinney, TX for the McKinney Book Festival, selling ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK and my past selections as well. I hear there will be 45 authors there, so it should be fun. Then on Oct 2nd is National Night Out around the country and my neighborhood has quite a little block party that goes on that night, including vendors and fun stuff for the kids. So I will be out there selling books to the neighbors again that night.  Then on Oct 20th I'll be in Belton, TX for the Market Days celebration in front of the McWha Bookstore, featuring ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK once again.

What can I say, Helen? First, I should mention for any lurkers that Truth and Tell are caterpillars. I mean, without that information, I can imagine a lot of puzzled looks. in TRUTH AND TELL TRAVEL THE SOLAR SYSTEM, I can't say that I like one of the "brothers" more than the other. They are archetypal characters that represent two major aspects of humanity: the rationalists and the actualizes, or you might say the scientists and the humanists, or you might say the ethicists and the accomplishers, or you might say in today's world, the "real" and the "fake" (though I don't actually think of Tell as fake). This is one aspect of your work that I think makes it particularly engaging and appropriate for youngsters who are having to make sense of this rather complex world. More important, which of the two to YOU like best?

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK by Keith R. Rees - Excerpt #2 (This Excerpt is family rated)

[12714186-one-night-in-bangkok-by-keith-rees]

Chapter 2 – The Pawns
He left the tavern and stepped out into the busy terminal. It was still very crowded with
people going every which way. Glancing up at the marquee, he saw that ground transportation
was just ahead. He stepped onto the crowded moving sidewalk and was whisked away in that
direction. He saw another sign for the outside terminus. He hopped off the sidewalk and made
his way down another speedy escalator. It was longer than he imagined. It must have descended
at least ten floors. When he reached the bottom, he knew it must be the right place. Just outside
the giant entry doors to the terminal he could see the long, sleek, tubular transports that he had
seen from the air. They came in all different sizes; there were some to accommodate many
people and some for one or two passengers. Curling his lip, Miles uttered, "Well at least they still
have buses and taxis."

Keith R. Rees has been writing professionally for over 20 years. ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK, a
science fiction work, is the first installment in what is projected to become The One Night
Trilogy. He has always been a fan of science fiction, particularly stories that involve time travel,
and writes stories that have both realistic and human sides to them.
"One Night in Bangkok is a time travel adventure that science fiction fans will enjoy but I'm
hoping fans of other genres as well, such as mystery, suspense and humor," says Rees. "The
trilogy is based on time travel but at the heart of it all is a powerful story about family."

ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK by Keith R. Rees - Excerpt #3 (This Excerpt is Family Rated)

[12714186-one-night-in-bangkok-by-keith-rees]

Chapter 4 – The Knight
The streets were quiet as he walked, but he could hear the faint sounds of activity
somewhere in the vicinity. It almost sounded like another open-air market or a street fair. But
then another sound could be heard. He could hear something that sounded eerily familiar echoing
down the darkened alleys. It was eerie because he could not see it but also exciting at the same
time. What could it be? he thought to himself. The sound came closer. It was either the low
rumbling hum of an engine motor, or the low, sustained growl of a dragon. Whatever it was,
Miles had a feeling it was most certainly meant to get his attention.
About this Book:
As he awakens on a plane, Miles Devereaux is confused, disoriented and otherwise oblivious to
what has happened to him. As the plane descends into an eye-popping spectacle of a city that is
unlike any other, he soon discovers he has awakened sixty years in the future in the dazzling city
of Bangkok. Soon, he is on a visionary adventure and battle to save himself in a real-life game of
chess. Miles is challenged with quickly adapting to an array of ingenious technology and
engineering marvels of the future as well as the ancient and deadly arts of the past. He must
match wits and physical skills with an array of colorful opponents, all the while catching a
glimpse of the sensational future. He slowly pieces together the mystery of his time travel and
how he can return to his own time before time runs out. What he does not know is he only has
one night to accomplish the impossible. One night to discover. One night to survive. One night in
Bangkok!

About the Author:
I've always been a storyteller. Even before I knew I could be a writer I loved telling stories. In
summers during my college days I worked as a counselor at summer camp for kids in East Texas.
Each night at bedtime in our cabin, I would sit in the middle of the floor and tell the kids science
fiction stories about outer space. The kids were never so quiet until these times as they would
hang on my every word. And each night after that, they would all remind me where I left off the
night before, which was a good thing because I was just making it all up as I went along!
I've always been inspired by other author's stories, movies and especially music. I had the good
fortune to be able to travel in my teens. I spent my first year in college overseas as an exchange
student on the island of Malta with my brother. After that we got to see a great deal of Europe as
well. And since then I have been able to see many fascinating places around the world. I've
observed how other countries live and the ways of their cultures. Everywhere I go though, I
always have some music with me and my vivid imagination.
It was these experiences and my propensity to use music as my springboard to bring my
imagination to life in words. At the age of twenty-six, I discovered I could write poetry. I became
obsessed with it. I could never find a pen and pad fast enough when ideas came pouring from my
mind. But during these twelve years of writing poetry, I always kept actual story ideas in mind,
brewing on the back burner as one might say. Some ideas I jotted own, some I just kept in my
head. And in 2007, I made the leap from poetry to novel writing. Eleven years and five novels
later, I haven't looked back. I even managed to put together two collections of my poetry during
that time. But writing novels has become my passion.
ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK is now my sixth novel and first with Savant Books and
Publications. It is the first of what is to become the One Night Trilogy. Parts two and three
(novels seven and eight for me) of this trilogy are already completed. And I've just begun work
on number nine, which is going to be a good old fashioned ghost story.
My stories are from multiple genres, including modern literature, fiction, historical fiction and
now science fiction with ONE NIGHT IN BANGKOK. They are all available on Amazon.com
and other popular book sites.

When I studied Somatic therapy, I was surprised to learn just how able we are to move and stretch a body, typically a lot more than we think even older.

Most people don't know how to use the body; you could also say many simply don't use it instead using their mind. I've always thought computer use in today's society was a sort of half-measure away from whole body movement (which we need to stay mentally and physically healthy) where one dances the fingers only.

Michael, exercising the eyes is definitely a form of somatic therapy not a lot different from computer finger dancing. I have seen people exercising their eyes in response to something they've heard or seen or felt and it definitely makes me think of an "eye dance."

Flash fiction seems to be like twitter or cotton candy, appealing with almost no substance.

The other casualty of short attention span theater is the death of satire and irony.

Of course as a former professor I am appalled by some of lengthy and absurd works posing as profound works of literature, not to mention the absurdity of many grants and the misuse of statistics and computer modeling.

Well, I leave the chat now with one last marketing observation, great views and awful reviews sell books!
Middle of the road reviews are of little value in selling books.
